InFocus: New Franklin Family Drug Court

The court and community resources will work together to help families in crisis due to substance abuse.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The impact of the opioid crisis touches not only the family and friends of an addict, but the entire community. In Franklin County, the courts are seeing an increase of cases where families, especially children, are living with the negative effects of addiction.

This week on 22News InFocus, we'll be discussing the newly created Franklin Family Drug Court.  It's the first of it's kind in Massachusetts.

Unlike traditional drug courts, the Franklin Family Drug Court will offer treatment and education to the recovering parent as well as children and their caregivers.  This week's panel of guests are directly involved with the cases and the implementation of the associated programs.  They are hoping that this groundbreaking specialty court will become a model in helping families struggling with substance abuse issues.
