CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Two men are facing charges after a woman’s wallet was stolen at a gas station on Chicopee Street Saturday.
Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News the incident started when one man, 29-year-old Michael Suchenicz, approached a woman pumping gas asking for money. When he was told no, he allegedly began yelling at the woman. At this point, Wilk said another man, 27-year-old Donnie Ray Coppedge, joined him and the victim’s friend got out of the car to help.
As the friend got out of the car, Wilk said her wallet fell on the ground and Coppedge picked it up. The two men allegedly ran away with the wallet as the two women chased them. They didn’t catch up to them, but Wilk says they found the wallet with cash and debit cards missing.
Suchenicz and Coppedge were eventually caught by Holyoke police and taken into custody. Both men were charged with larceny from a person.
At the station, Wilk said Coppedge was found to have heroin and a burnt glass cylinder used for smoking crack cocaine in his possession. He has also been charged with possession of a Class B drug and possession of a Class A drug, a subsequent offense.
