FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WWLP) – The Patriots may be coming off a Super Bowl win but they went into training camp ranked as the number one team in the NFL and there are some big expectations going into the 2017 season.
It was standing room only as Super Bowl champs took the field today for training camp.
The sight of Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady had the crowd screaming his name, but the team is now focused on the season ahead. The team is predicted to go undefeated at 19-0.
Training camp started Wednesday but today was the first day it was open to the public. Fans were able to see the team for the first time since that super bowl 51 win.
It was also their first time to see Rob Gronkowski on the field since he was hurt last November. As you may remember Gronkowski was not part of the super bowl or the second half of the season leading up to it, after undergoing back surgery last December.
Coach Belichick said Gronkowski was given a clean bill of health heading into training camp.
“I’ve been looking forward to it for awhile now, I’ve been looking forward to just get back to football. I’ve definitely had a longer vacation than a lot of the guys so i would say i’m probably the most eager to get going,” said Gronkowski.
The official start of the season is now less than 2 months away.
The teams first opponent of the season will be the Kansas City Chiefs on September 7th. That’s when fans will have a chance to see the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Another notable game this season will be October 22nd when the patriots take on their Super Bowl 51 rival the Atlanta Falcons.
