Regal Beagle bar in Springfield damaged by fire during failed robbery

No word yet on the extent of the damage

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A bar in the Indian Orchard neighborhood of Springfield was damaged by a fire Saturday morning.

Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News that firefighters were called to the Regal Beagle bar at 567 Main Street just before 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly.

Springfield Police later announced that they are looking for suspects responsible for breaking into the bar. Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney told 22News that someone tried to break into the Regal Beagle bar around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.

While the suspects were inside, they tried to break into an ATM using a blow torch. The plan backfired when something nearby caught fire and the flames quickly spread through the bar.

The Massachusetts State Police and the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad are involved in the investigation.
