Victim identified in Springfield’s 4th homicide of 2017

Ivery Lee Downie died following shooting near North End gas station

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police have released the name of the man who died following a shooting near a North End gas station Thursday morning.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the victim was 36 year-old Ivery Lee Downie.

Delaney says that police found Downey on top of a flower pot at the Mobil station at 3111 Main Street at around 2:45 Thursday morning, suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid before EMT’s got there to take Downie to nearby Baystate Medical Center, where he died.

Delaney said that witnesses told police the shooter was seen running north down Main Street. Police searched the area, but were unsuccessful, and they are still looking for suspects.
