CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Another hotel will soon be rising on Memorial Drive in Chicopee! Demolition crews are continuing to tear down the former Days Inn next to the Massachusetts Turnpike. In its place will be a new Tru by Hilton.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new hotel was held Friday morning.
The Tru by Hilton is a medium-market hotel which the company describes on its website as being “vibrant, affordable, and young-at-heart.” The Chicopee location, which is expected to be completed next year, will feature 108 rooms.
“It’s a big game changer, it’s good for the mid-scale segment of the market, about 18 million travelers are in that market segment,” hotel owner Hershal Patel said.
“The re-birth really shows a plus for our city, but also for the region. Now it’s a destination with the hotels and number of businesses that we have,” Chicopee Mayor Richard Kos said.
The hotel will be run by the Patel family, which also built the nearby Hampton Inn, and has other properties in New England and New York state.
