Amherst affordable housing awarded $15.8 million for renovations

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – An affordable housing unit in Amherst has received a financial boost from MassHousing.

In a release sent to 22News, MassHousing says $15.8 million is being provided to Redwood Housing, and will go toward the renovation of 100 affordable housing units at Clark House in Amherst.

Clark House’s affordable housing units consist of 81 homes for elderly residents and 19 homes for families and disabled residents.

Redwood Housing plans to use the nearly $16 million in funding to replace all hot and cold water piping, to improve accessibility, upgrade the community room, modernize elevators and replace sliding glass doors and windows.

Clark House was built in 1980, and is located on Lessey Street near the town’s senior center.
