Man killed in shooting near Springfield gas station

Victim found suffering from gunshot wound near Mobil station on Main St.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 36 year-old man has been killed in Springfield’s fourth homicide of 2017.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, officers were called to the Mobil gas station at 3111 Main Street at around 2:45 Thursday morning for a gun issue. There, they discovered a 36 year-old man on top of a flower pot, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police provided first aid before EMT’s got there, and the victim was rushed to nearby Baystate Medical Center, where he died at 3:30 A.M.

Delaney says that witnesses had told police that the suspect was seen running north down Main Street. Police have searched the area, but no arrests have been made at this time.

The victim’s name is not being released until members of his family have been notified.
