Preparations underway for World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast

Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi is honorary chairman of this year's breakfast

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast takes a lot of planning, preparation, and 1,008 pounds of bacon!

If you have been to this event before, you’ve definitely seen the massive amount of pancakes and bacon that are served on Main Street in Springfield. But what you don’t get to see are the hours of preparation that makes it all possible.

Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi helped the culinary staff prepare some of the bacon Wednesday. The Spirit of Springfield hosts the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast every year, and Sheriff Cocchi told 22News that it’s an event that thousands of people look forward to.

“The event’s extremely important. It brings everybody to downtown Springfield. We get schools and students from all the surrounding cities and towns to really appreciate how wonderful Springfield is,” Cocchi said.

The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast will take place this Saturday on Main Street in Springfield from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., or until the last person in line has been fed. This year, the breakfast is sponsored by MGM Springfield, and celebrates the city’s 381st birthday.
