Springfield police searching for gun following short chase

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police are searching in the city’s Hill McKnight neighborhood after a brief pursuit Tuesday afternoon involving someone who was believed to have had a gun.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that a plainclothes officer was driving down Worthington Street, when he saw a fight in the middle of the road, near the intersection of Federal Street. He said that one of the people in the fight had a gun, though no shots were fired.

That man got into a car, and Delaney said that police pursued the vehicle. Officers were able to pull the car over and take the two people inside into custody. No charges have yet been filed.

Delaney says that police are currently searching in the area for the gun. 22News viewers reported seeing police activity in the Florida Street area of the McKnight neighborhood.
