SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – The Southwick Police Department has announced the retirement of their police dog, K9 Jax.

According to the Southwick Police Department’s Facebook page, Jax will retire May 31 after ten years of service to Southwick and surrounding communities.

Jax and his handler Officer Thomas Krutka were presented with the Massachusetts Police Working Dog Association’s Narcotic Detection Team of the Year award in 2014. It was that year, Southwick police say, that Jax and Krutka helped seize 119 pounds of marijuana and more than a million dollars in cash.
