Hampden to add full-time firefighters to its volunteer fire department

The town also voted to budget money to pay "on call" firefighters

HAMPDEN, Mass. (WWLP) – The Town of Hampden took steps to improve public safety Monday night, by creating positions for full-time firefighters.

Hundreds of people attended Monday night’s special town meeting in Hampden.

The town voted to spend $161,000 to add three full-time positions to Hampden’s volunteer fire department. They also budgeted $65,000 to pay “on call” firefighters.

Selectboard Charmain John Flynn said they also agreed to spend $31,000 to replace and update video systems in the town’s police cruisers.
