“The Circle”

Up until “The Circle”, Tom Hanks had a flawless record for picking quality roles

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you think the smartphone generation’s addicted to their devices now just wait until young people fall in line with “The Circle”.

Tom Hanks’ the slick and sinister social media con man advocating everyone becoming an open book keeping nothing secret from anyone.

And follower Emma Watson’s just gullible enough to buy into the brainwashing that Hanks is selling.

For whatever reason Hanks’ brave new internet world lacks cinematic energy, with the action falling flatter than the performances.

Hanks pulls quite a scam on the audience, disappearing from the picture for long stretches, until you realize he’s just a featured player with top billing

As good as Emma Watson was in “Beauty and the Beast”, she can’t carry “The Circle” all by herself.

She becomes such a ploy in Hank’s game plan, she boasts that her transparency attracts 2,387,000 views.

But , I’d be stunned that even a fraction of that number go to see “The Circle”….when the film’s lack of crowd pleasing qualities becomes transparent by way of word of mouth.

In other words, “The Circle” will bore you to death. It’s only a matter of time before Watson senses the evils of knowing everything about everyone, before she realizes “The Circle” is a DUD.

Up until “The Circle”, Tom Hanks had a flawless record for picking quality roles that flattered his Mr. Nice Gus image.

Here, he’s a diabolical huckster who which frankly won’t sell many tickets.

In fact, I can’t remember the last time a Tom Hanks movie wound up with only 2 stars.

By the time “The Circle” comes full circle, you’ll be searching for the nearest exit.
