SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – If you were out and about Friday, you probably had your umbrella with you and your windshield wipers on. The rain came down heavy at times.
All the rain we’ve been getting over the last few months has been very beneficial.
During the month of April we picked up almost 4 inches of rain and it keeps on coming. So far this year, through the month of April we picked up more than 14 inches of rain, which is above our average of 13.73 inches of rain.
People 22News talked to had mixed feelings about the weather we’ve been having this spring.
“I love it we need the rain. (What do you think of the spring overall?) It’s been good, it’s been good. I like it and I ride a motorcycle,” said Gerard J Smith of Chicopee.
“It’s not good, one day it’s 50 and the next day it’s 75, every day is different. The weather makes you sick too,” said Ned Masic of West Springfield.
All the rain has gotten us out of the extreme drought conditions we had been experiencing. According to the US Drought Monitor some areas are still abnormally dry and just a sliver of Southwick is still in the Moderate Drought Category.
The rain is also causing the Connecticut River to run pretty high and fast. Fortunately it doesn’t look like we have to worry about any river flooding but watch out for some street flooding.
