WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Seniors in West Springfield got a special Cinco de Mayo treat on Friday! Members of the Big E Mardi Gras Band traded in the sounds of New Orleans for the sounds of south of the border for a performance at the town’s senior center.
A local Mexican restaurant provided authentic cuisine for guests to enjoy during Friday’s performance. “It’s wonderful,” Diane Clark told 22News, saying that she had “a lot of fun trying the different types of food, the different types of culture.”
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the May 5, 1862 victory of the Mexican army over the heavily-favored forces of France at the Battle of Puebla.
Friday’s Cinco de Mayo celebration is part of an ongoing cultural series at the West Springfield Senior Center, with other recent events celebrating Italian and Polish cultures.
