Local Red Cross volunteers to help flood victims in the Midwest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts Red Cross volunteers are in Missouri and Arkansas, Friday night, helping disaster victims and assessing the damage from the floodwaters impacting the two states.

Carolyn McDonald of Holyoke will spend two weeks in Missouri helping victims flooded out of their homes, while Daniel Amuso of Pittsfield is volunteering in Arkansas.

Red Cross Executive Director Jen Garutti told 22News she’s proud of the western Massachusetts volunteers; “We’re proud of our two volunteers who are willing to pick up from their lives and help those in need.”

“Our volunteers are all special people and we do train them to respond locally to fires; and they’re also willing to train up to respond nationally,” said Mary Nathan, the Red Cross Disaster Program Manager.
