LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors have dropped a criminal case against a Syrian refugee who was accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a public swimming pool in Massachusetts.
Meghan Kelly, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex County district attorney, told The Lowell Sun they couldn’t get access to key witnesses.
Emad Hasso had been charged with indecent assault. That charge was dismissed without prejudice, meaning it could be brought again in the future.
Prosecutors had said the 22-year-old touched the girl’s thigh at a pool in Lowell and asked for her age. Hasso’s attorney had said he may have accidentally bumped into the girl but did not touch her inappropriately or speak to her.
Neither Hasso nor his attorney could be reached to comment on the dismissal.
