MONTAGUE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Montague Police Department now has an ATM inside their station, allowing safe access to cash 24 hours a day. Montague Police Chief Charles Dodge told 22News this idea came from both residents and officers who were in need of an ATM.
Greenfield Savings Bank partnered with the police department to have one installed in the lobby of the station. The bank paid the construction cost, as well as paying for signage outside the station.
Chief Dodge said the ATM also allows prisoners a convenient place to get cash for bail; “We’re not a hard department, we’re not trying to keep people locked up. If we can assist you by helping you with bail, we will certainly do that. This will now provide us with that opportunity in a safe way.”
Chief Dodge also said the ATM will allow people to get money as they drive through town. The Montague Police station is located on Turnpike Road, which has a lot of traffic.
Montague Police and the Greenfield Police are the only two police stations in Franklin County with ATM machines.
