2 Springfield police officers, 3 others taken to hospital after crash

None of the injuries are serious, police spokesperson says

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two veteran Springfield police officers are being checked out at the hospital after a crash involving their cruiser and another vehicle Thursday afternoon.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney said that there were three people in the other vehicle, which ended up on its side following the crash at Worthington and Chestnut Streets downtown. He said that they were also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Delaney said that none of the injuries in the crash are serious.

He said that the officers were responding to a call and were going through the intersection with the cruiser’s lights flashing when the crash happened.

No citations have been issued at this time. The Springfield Police Traffic Bureau is looking into what led to the crash.
