CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – This week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week here in southern New England. We all know that weather can change in the blink of an eye, and it is important to know how to be prepared for each different storm system.
The point of Severe Weather Preparedness Week is to bring attention to the different severe weather systems that happen here in southern New England. The National Weather Service assigned each day of this week a different storm system, and how to be prepared for each storm.
Monday focused on severe thunderstorms, Tuesday on thunderstorms and lightning. Wednesday will be about being aware of different storms. Thursday will be about tornadoes, and Friday will address downburst winds.
It is important to know that living in a location where we see different kinds of weather, how to prepare for each storm and what each storm can do.
Wednesday, the National Weather Service will be holding a SKYWARN training program at the 22News Broadcast Center in Chicopee starting at 7:00 P.M. and continuing until 9:30 P.M. The program, which provides information on how to recognize severe weather and notify the National Weather Service of severe conditions, is free and open to all members of the public.
