SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Forest Park Farmers Market opened in Springfield Tuesday. This year’s opening day marks the 20th anniversary of the market being in Forest Park.
The market takes place every Tuesday, rain or shine, through October at the Cyr Arena parking lot inside the park. Hours are from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The farmers market promotes healthy eating habits, and provides fresh products from local farms.
Carol Joyce of White Buffalo Herbs told 22News that she is thrilled it is opening day; “I think it’s incredibly exciting. It’s a wonderful market, very diverse customers, very diverse products, and fabulous farmers.”
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno visited the market Tuesday to congratulate them on 20 years. When the Forest Park Farmers Market began in 1998, they only had five vendors; this year, they are close to 30 vendors.
