According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, 23-year-old Lamiek White, of Chicopee, was arrested near East Columbus Ave and Liberty Street shortly after the shooting.

Delaney said the two men were involved in an altercation at an area bar prior to the shooting. The 27-year-old man who was shot was taken to Baystate Medical Center in a private car and was last listed in stable condition.

Delaney said officers were at the corner of Hillman and Chestnut Streets, when they heard three to four gunshots near Bridge Street just before 2:00 a.m. When the officers got there, Delaney said they saw a black car quickly leaving a parking garage, almost hitting their cruiser.

Delaney said once officers stopped the car, they found a .357 semi-automatic handgun and 56 grams of “Big 10” heroin packaged for sale inside the car. White was arrested and is being charged with possession of a firearm in a felony, discharging within 500 feet of a building, trafficking in heroin, malicious damage over $250, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and failure to stop for police.
