Identity of Springfield homicide victim revealed

No arrests yet in killing of Christopher Bailey

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police have released the identity of a 19 year-old man killed in the city’s second homicide of 2017.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, Christopher Bailey of Springfield died Friday night, nearly a day after the shooting at Edgewood Street and Bay Street.

Delaney says that police were called to the area at around 6:30 Thursday night for a report of a gunshot victim. Once there, officers provided emergency first aid to Bailey before EMTs could arrive. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, but did not survive.

No arrests have been made at this time, but Delaney says that detectives from the Major Crimes unit is continuing their work on the case. District Attorney Anthony Gulluni says that his office is also working with police.

“I would like to express my sympathies to the family and friends of Christopher Bailey during this difficult time. My office’s Murder Unit will continue to work in partnership with the Springfield Police Department towards a successful prosecution and justice for the victim and his family,” Gulluni said.
