NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH)– Police in Connecticut have identified the father who they say shot and killed his adult daughter in her Norwalk home, before killing himself Monday morning.

There was heavy police activity at 66 Wilton Avenue, where police say 55-year-old Mark Wilkinson shot and killed his daughter,  33-year-old Melissa Wilkinson, in her apartment. 22News’ sister station News 8 was on the scene when SWAT teams approached the apartment building during a standoff with the male Wilkinson. That standoff ended after he shot and killed himself.

Police say it started at around 12:30 a.m., when officers were called by friends of Melissa, who went to her home after she didn’t show up for work.  Police say when her friends kicked in her door, they found her dead, along with her father who was in her home with a weapon. They ran out of the apartment and alerted police.

When officers responded to the scene,  they attempted to communicate with Wilkinson, before calling in the tactical team and hostage negotiators, who also tried to get him out of the house. Police say while they were talking to him, they heard a gunshot. They then put a camera inside the home to confirm that Wilkinson had killed himself.

Police say detectives, the crime scene unit and the medical examiner are now on scene taking over the investigation.
