Man shot in stomach on East Columbus Ave. in Springfield

The victim is expected to survive

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man is in the hospital after a shooting in Springfield early Sunday morning.

Springfield Police Lt. Richard LaBelle told 22News the shooting took place around 2 a.m. near a parking garage near East Columbus Ave. and Bridge Street. Labelle said one man was shot in the stomach during the shooting. He is now recovering in the hospital and is expected to survive.

Lt. Labelle told 22News witnesses pointed out a car that may have been involved in the shooting. Officers stopped that car on Columbus Ave. near the bus station. Police arrested the driver, 23-year-old Lamiek White of Springfield, after searching the vehicle and finding a gun inside.

White is still in police custody awaiting arraignment.
