Brother of music legend plays benefit concert in Palmer

Tommy Cash played a benefit concert for the Palmer High School band

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – For those of you who like country music, the brother of country music legend Johnny Cash, Tommy Cash, performed in Palmer Saturday night. He performed songs from his brother, along with his own hits.

It was a well-attended performance at Palmer High School. All the money raised from tonight’s performance will help the Palmer High School Marching Band buy new uniforms.

Their current uniforms are about 20 years old and they are deteriorating. People had no problem paying for their ticket to see the brother of a music legend, knowing the money would be spent to help the local students.

Sheryl Upchurch, a band mom, told 22News, “The band’s uniforms are 26-years-old. They’re tearing at the seams, they’re sticking together, they’re ripping. I mean they just need to be replaced.”

They hope to replace those old uniforms with a more stylish contemporary design by 2020. The Palmer Marching Band inspires school spirit and is a vibrant part of the community.
