HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were arrested and charged with murder in connection to a deadly home invasion in Holyoke early Friday morning.

Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, told 22News that Sammy Lozada, 38, Jose Espada, 36, and Madeline Garcia, 34, are also being charged with armed home invasion and assault and battery.

Leydon said that at around 2:30 a.m., patrolling police officers heard screams coming from the area of 372 Maple Street. Officers saw a man running from that area carrying a knife. He was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

At 372 Maple, Leydon said police found a man suffering from an apparent knife wound to the chest. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, but later died. His name is not being released at this time.

Shortly after the stabbing, Leydon said police arrested Lozada, Espada, and Garcia. He told 22News that it is believed the three had kicked down the door of the victim’s home in order to retrieve a piece of property that the victim had.

All three suspects were arraigned in Holyoke District Court, Friday afternoon.
