East Longmeadow to hold forum on marijuana sales

Voters will decide on issue of pot shops in June

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – East Longmeadow voters will decide in June whether they want to allow recreational marijuana sales in their town. With that in mind, a public forum will be held Thursday night to discuss the issue.

Legal sales of recreational marijuana are expected to begin in Massachusetts next year, but individual communities have the right to refuse to allow pot shops in their community through a referendum vote.

East Longmeadow Town Council President Kevin Manley told 22News that he and the town’s health department will be hosting the forum, which is designed to educate town residents before they vote.

Thursday night’s forum will be held at 6:30 at the Birchland Park Middle School.
