Three high schools awarded for winning impaired driving PSAs

Cash prizes will benefit schools' technology capabilities

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Winners of the Hampden County District Attorney’s impaired driving public service announcement challenge were presented with their prizes Tuesday.

The challenge prompted students to submit a 30 to 60 second public service announcement regarding impaired driving and public safety. In total, more than 30 students from around the county submitted videos highlighting the dangers associated with drunk or drugged driving.

“The decision behind it, what we wanted to do, was get young people to craft a message for young people. We realize that young people putting a message out is probably better than people like me giving them same message. It’s probably going to resonate better from young people,” Gulluni said.

Jake Wieners from Agawam High school recieved first place  and $10,000 for his submission. Two other students were also chosen from Westfield Technical Academy and Chicopee Comprehensive High School.

The winning students’ PSAs will air right here on 22News.
