CT State Police: Springfield man had 1.5 Kg. of heroin in car

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WWLP) – A Springfield man was arrested by Connecticut State Police Sunday night after troopers allegedly found more than a kilogram of heroin inside his car.

According to Connecticut State Police Media Relations, 37-year-old Jeffrey VanMourik was pulled over on I-84 West in East Hartford, Connecticut, around 7:40 p.m. for failing to stay in his lane.

VanMourik allegedly told state troopers he was distracted by his cellphone GPS, but state police said troopers believed he was acting suspicious and requested to search his car.

Inside, state police say they found 1.5 kilograms, or 3.3 pounds, of heroin. VanMourik was arrested and was also found to have had a bag of heroin in his possession.

He is being charged with failure to drive in proper lane, operating without a license, possession of heroin, and possession of a narcotic with intent to sell.

VanMourik was held on $100,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned in Manchester Superior Court Monday.
