Three taken to hospital after Springfield crash

Crash caused fluids to leak onto road

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were taken to the hospital Friday morning after a two-car crash at the corner of Union and Walnut Streets in Springfield.

Springfield Police Department Officer Robert Kalin told 22News one vehicle was traveling northbound on Walnut Street and ran a red light, striking the car traveling westbound on Union Street.

Kalin said three people were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover. The driver who ran the red light is being issued a violation, Kalin said.

Springfield Fire Department Spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News the fire department was also called to the crash just before 8:30 a.m. He said the crash caused fluids to leak onto the road.
