CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police were called to Exchange Street Thursday night, where they found one bloodied man wedged between a curb and a car, and another pinned down on the ground by a bystander outside a liquor store.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News security footage from Chicopee Center cameras showed 37-year-old Kevin O’Malley, of Springfield, and a passenger fighting inside the car, before the passenger was pushed out the door.

Wilk said footage then showed O’Malley get out of the car and start to punch, kick, and slam the victim’s head into the curb. He said it appeared O’Malley ran over the victim’s leg in his attempt to drive away. A bystander was then able to stop O’Malley and pin him down until officers got there.

Wilk said the victim was in and out of consciousness and had serious facial and head injuries. He was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he was uncooperative with hospital employees and police detectives.

O’Malley is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery resulting in a serious injury, operating an unregistered vehicle, and illegally attaching plates to a vehicle. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning.
