SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Ahead of Earth Day on Saturday, people are thinking about ways we can improve the quality of life we enjoy on this planet.
As Ludlow resident Olga Hoeppner shopped at the Sixteen Acres Garden Center in Springfield, she told 22News how recycling makes her world a better place to live. “It’s good for the earth; less trash is better for the earth. Let’s face it, landfills are overflowing.”
Solar energy advocates said you can improve the environment by making your home more Earth friendly, and with thoughtful landscaping. Gardening became East Longmeadow homeowner Marilyn Pooler’s passion 60 years ago.
Pooler said she’s still looking for ways to beautify her garden and, by extension, her community; “This little plant I’m picking out today, I’ve never seen it before, and I want to try it.”
Vivint Solar recommends honoring Earth Day with better insulation, investing in double pane windows and installing a smart thermostat, adjusting the seasonal settings in your home among other things.
