West Springfield PD: Suicidal man refused to come out of apartment

Police still trying to determine whether man had a gun

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  West Springfield police dealt with a disturbance at a Riverdale Street apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the Toll House apartments for a report of a suicidal man who possibly had a gun. West Springfield Police Sgt. Michael Reed told 22News a man was threatening to kill himself and slammed the door to his apartment while officers were talking with him and refused to come out.

Police are still trying to determine whether he had a gun. No threats were ever made.

Sgt. Reed said they are familiar with the suspect, who he said was drinking. The man was loaded into an ambulance and taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
