Fewer Americans trying to lose weight

(CNN) – It seems the “battle of the bulge” isn’t quite the fight it used to be. While obesity rates in the U.S. keep going up, fewer Americans are actively trying to lose weight, new research shows.

The reason, researchers from Georgia Southern University believe it’s because being overweight is seen as the “new normal”. As more people become obese, people are having a harder time recognizing that they themselves are overweight. Thus, creating a new trend and this, research shows, can lead to a lack of motivation to ditch the extra pounds.

If you are concerned you or a loved one might be at an unhealthy weight, take the first step and have the uncomfortable discussion with your doctor. They can give you the tools to get on the right track and don’t think of it as a diet; just making small daily changes in your lifestyle can make a big difference.
