SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A former nursing home worker convicted of raping a patient suffering from dementia, will spend up to eight years in prison.
Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, told 22News that Parkpoom Seesangrit was sentenced to six to eight years in prison this week. Seesangrit was found guilty by a Hampden Superior Court judge (he had waived his right to a trial by jury.)
Seesangrit was a certified nursing assistant at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center, where another employee discovered him in the 69 year-old woman’s room under “inappropriate curcumstances.” His defense lawyer had argued that he was trying to assist the victim in cleaning herself. The nursing home has a policy preventing male workers from changing or washing female patients.
