Pittsfield man arrested on gun charge after car & foot chase

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Police arrested a man from Pittsfield, early Wednesday morning, after an attempted traffic stop and a chase.

According to Pittsfield Police Captain Jeffrey Bradford, officers were on patrol around 5:37 a.m. Wednesday, when they attempted to pull over 30-year-old Adam Masefield for allegedly driving with a suspended license.

Masefield, who was driving his grandmother’s car, allegedly did not pull over for police and sped away. Captain Bradford said Masefield later stopped the car on Pomeroy Avenue, near Theodore Herberg Middle School, but then ran away on foot.

Captain Bradford said the officers eventually caught Masefield, and allegedly saw him throw away a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic Taurus handgun to the ground, during the foot chase.

Masefield was charged with the following:

  • Unlawful Possession of Loaded Firearm, (6) Rounds
  • Operating Motor Vehicle after Suspension
  • Numerous Motor Vehicle Offenses to include Driving to Endanger

Captain Bradford said Masefield was arraigned Wednesday morning in Pittsfield District Court.
