Springfield man allegedly caught with heroin & loaded handgun

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Springfield was arrested Monday on gun and drug charges in Holyoke, after he was allegedly seen stumbling around.

According to Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert, the department received a report around 12:00 p.m. Monday of a man stumbling in front of a house on Lincoln Street. When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Eddie Santiago of Springfield, who allegedly appeared to be unsteady.

The officers then searched Santiago and allegedly found a fully loaded Smith & Wesson 9MM handgun, 88 bags of heroin and $2,980 in cash, Lt. Albert said. Santiago also didn’t have a license to carry the handgun.

Santiago was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Class A Narcotic (Heroin)
  • Possession to Distribute Class A
  • Possession of Firearm Ammo without an FID Card
  • Possession/Carrying a Loaded Firearm
  • Firearm Use in a Felony

Lt. Albert added that Santiago was arraigned on April 18th in Holyoke District Court.
