SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) -MGM Resorts International is already building a casino here in western Massachusetts, and now, they’re interested in building another casino in Connecticut.
The two tribes in Connecticut that operate the state’s two casinos, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, are fighting back against a bill that would allow them to do that. They say that the state’s best option is to let them build a third casino in East Windsor. That casino would directly compete with MGM Springfield as a way to keep revenue and jobs in the state of Connecticut.
Under current state law, Connecticut can only negotiate with the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes.
Connecticut state lawmakers held a hearing Monday to discuss the issue, and heard testimony on a bill that would open up competition by allowing commercial developers to propose casino plans.
MGM said they’d be interested in building a casino in southwestern Connecticut, if that bill were to pass.
