Springfield Thunderbirds close season with big win

Thunderbirds defeated the Hartford Wolf pack 4-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Thunderbirds went out with a bang Saturday night, as the regular season comes to an end.

The Thunderbirds played the Hartford Wolf Pack at the MassMutual Center, defeating them 5-1. Saturday’s game was the last of the 2016/2017 season.

Although the Thunderbirds won’t be advancing to the playoffs, Dean Mercadante of Agawam told 22News he loves coming to games with his family. He said, “I come here faithfully with my son and two grandkids and they have a blast. It’s awesome.”

The Thunderbirds also presented two senior pastors from the Restoration Worship Center in Springfield with its “Game Changer” award Saturday. The award recognizes individuals who have made a difference in their communities along the Pioneer Valley.
