“Going in Style”

Lifelong buddies have so much time on their hands and so many grievances about being exploited by the system

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The gang that couldn’t shoot straight had nothing on our three bank robbing retirees who are definitely “Going in Style”.

Lifelong buddies Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin have so much time on their hands and so many grievances about being exploited by the system, they decide to rob a bank. And this shrewdly directed and cleverly written comedy gives them good reason.

We’re on their side and the picture makes absolutely certain they’ve got our sympathy. And if any of the audience seems slow on the uptake, just set the stage with the housing bubble evils orchestrated by those ruthless bankers.

It wasn’t necessary to plug Viagra by name, only by inference when Ann-Marget lusts after Alan Arkin. He’s only too happy to accommodate the still lovely 74 year old seductress.

But “Going in Style” is less about sex than escaping into the carefully contrived comedy with three of the most charming and rambunctious 80 year olds you’ll ever meet up with on the silver screen. And when the boys decide “let’s get our money back”, you’ll know there’s no reason to ask for your money back.

And why should you? “Going in Style” is so amusing and so filled with delightful performances it’s like money in the bank with 3 stars. How about a sequel setting their sights on Fort Knox?
