Outdoor burning permits suspended in Amherst

The start of spring brings the threat of brush fires to New England every year

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – Local fire departments were busy Saturday putting water on numerous brush fires. The strong sun, dry conditions and wind combined to raise the fire danger.

As a result, the town of Amherst suspended all outdoor burning permits. No one was allowed to burn outside.

Firefighters are concerned at how fast brush fires can spread in these low humidity conditions.

Residents are encouraged to check with their local fire department before burning. The start of spring brings the threat of brush fires to New England every year.
