HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A car fire on I-91 northbound shut down traffic between Holyoke and Northampton for more than half an hour.
According to Massachusetts State Police Media Relations, the fire happened before noon near the 20.8 mile marker, by the Holyoke-Easthampton city line.
The fire sent thick black smoke into the air, as seen in a photo provided by the Massachusetts State Police. After firefighters put out the flames, the charred vehicle had to be loaded onto a flatbed tow truck and hauled away.
The highway has been re-opened, and traffic is now moving through the area as normal.
