Holyoke PD: Taser used to subdue suspect with stolen gun

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke police say that they had to use a taser to subdue a teen suspect who they caught with liquor and a stolen gun.

Holyoke Police Lt. Jim Albert told 22News that 19 year-old Joe Anthony Montaner-Vazquez was arrested early Friday morning at 123 Walnut Street. Albert says that police received a call at around 1:30 about a disturbance and a man with a handgun at that address.

When police got there, Albert says that the officers located Montaner-Vazquez in the hallway. He said that there was a brief struggle between the suspect and police, during which time a taser was used.

Albert says that police found that the suspect was carrying a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun that had been reported stolen out of Pittsfield in November. Police also found a bottle of Hennessy with the underage suspect.

Montaner-Vazquez faces the following charges:

  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Carrying / Possession of a Firearm w/Out a License
  • Possession of Ammo w/Out an FID Card
  • Carrying / Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Receiving Stolen Property Over $250
  • Minor Transporting / Carrying Alcohol

He was arraigned Friday in Holyoke District Court.
