MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters were working all afternoon Friday to control multiple brush fires in the Town of Monson.
One brush fire started in a remote area off Homer Drive around 1:15 p.m. Friday. Monson Fire Chief Laurent McDonald told 22News firefighters needed to use tankers to get the water to the area because there were no hydrants. No homes were threatened.
Chief McDonald said firefighters also extinguished two other brush fires near State Avenue and Robbins Road. Before the fires were put out, a home and shed suffered some damage after the fires spread.
Joyce Templeman of Monson said, “I felt comforted that all these fire departments were here, that it wasn’t going to get that far up here. So I felt relieved that they were going to take care of it.”
Firefighters from Palmer, Wales, Brimfield and Stafford, Connecticut assisted Monson in the effort to control the fires.
