Candy stores expect strong sales on Easter weekend

Easter, along with Christmas and Valentine's Day, are big holidays for candy makers

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Easter weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for many candy stores, especially for one store in Deerfield.

Many people were at Richardson’s Candy Kitchen in Deerfield on Friday, getting their favorite Easter candy. The store’s top sellers are the milk chocolate bunnies, named after the owner’s parents’ grandchildren: Sarah, Hannah, and Taylor. Other popular items include jelly beans, malt balls, truffles, and chocolate eggs.

Good Friday is the busiest day of the Easter weekend for the store. “We have everybody possible here this week and today and tomorrow in particular,” the store’s owner, Kathie Williams, explained. “We started off with a bang this morning. We opened up at 10:00 a.m. and we’ve been crowded ever since.”

Williams told 22News they make most of their money around Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter. She’s expecting close to a thousand customers this weekend.
