CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Business is booming and the registers are ringing at Bernat’s Polish Deli in Chicopee. It was so busy that a police officer was stationed outside to direct traffic.
Chicopee’s Polish community came out to get their Easter pierogies, kielbasa and other favorites.
Melissa Bernat said the deli prepares for the Easter rush two weeks in advance; “We’re a family owned business. We’ve been here for 15 years. Greg in the back makes all the kielbasa from family recipes back to his great-grandfather. Everything is smoked right here.”
Bernat’s said they make about 1,000 dozen pierogies from scratch. They’ll be open for any last minute Easter needs until 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
