SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Members of the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad checked a suspicious package on the grounds of Mercy Medical Center, Tuesday night.

Springfield Police Lt. Mark Rolland told 22News, “Hospital security discovered an unattended package near the ICU underpass at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, and a small section of the facility was evacuated.”

Lt. Rolland said the item was checked and determined to be clothing; “It’s back to normal.”

22News received phone calls from people who were unable to access Mercy Medical Center because of the emergency response. The area is all clear now, according to police.
