Warmer weather comes with risks for drivers & pedestrians

Pedestrians & bicyclists are encouraged to wear reflective gear at night

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Insurance company Esurance reports that springtime weather adds a number of risks to the road.

There are more bicycles and pedestrians on the streets, the rainy weather, and the wear and tear on the pavement after a long winter, are all risk factors on the road this time of year.

In a busy city like Springfield, some drivers said they pay particularly close attention for passing pedestrians. “I think it’s like that all year round, but mostly in the summertime cause a lot of people, more people are out wandering around, getting their exercise, or shopping by foot,” said Jose Ortiz of Springfield.

Insurance companies recommend checking the lights on your car during the spring season to make sure you have good visibility. They also recommend replacing wiper blades to keep up with the rainy weather and checking your tire pressure.

With the sun still setting earlier in the evening, pedestrians and bicyclists are encouraged to wear reflective gear when out at night.
