NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Athol is being held without the right to bail on a first-degree murder charge in the death of a 10 year-old boy nearly four years ago.

Christopher Vinsant, 30, pleaded not guilty Monday during his arraignment at Hampshire Superior Court in Northampton for the July 10, 2013 death of Isaiah Buckner. He was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on Friday.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, told 22News that Buckner was in Vinsant’s care when he had to be taken to the hospital for abdominal trauma. The boy later died from his injuries. Prosecutors allege that Vinsant had beaten Buckner.

Vinsant is due in court again on September 8.
